COVID has challenged a lot of our norms

I recently discovered Spotify. I know I’m about 10 years behind everyone else, but I’ve never been a trendsetter so I’m not go to pretend to be one now. Spotify very kindly decided to play me some random songs and ‘I Wrote Mr Tambourine Man’ by John Cragie appeared. The line which stood out, was the title of this piece ‘When the apocalypse is over, I hope you like your job’.

We will be writing about the ‘great pandemic’ for decades to come. There will be journals with studies on the effects on mental health, the flexible work approaches, and much more. For me it’s left me with a simpler question….am I happy with what I do for work? The one thing I’m not afraid of, is hard work. Whether it was my first job at 13, cleaning toilets and working the bar to get through uni, or even the brief stint I did working in a a call centre (that would now be my last choice of desperation , kudos to those who can stick it out). I know I have always worked hard. But do I actually like my work?

I have been fortunate to not loose much work, have the uncertainty of being furloughed or have to endure so many of the terrible challenges many others have had to endure, and for that I will be forever grateful. But despite all that - and maybe this is the…
