My new obsession with Wrexham football club, and why we love happy endings
We always love an underdog story with a potential Hollywood happy ending
Ever since the pandemic, I’ve stopped watching negative things as much as possible. I started to watch ‘War of the Worlds’ way back in April 2020 but somehow pictures of those empty streets felt too real in the back drop of the pandemic and I never finished it.
This is possibly why I have developed an obsession with the Wrexham Football club story and its current journey. For starters, there is a definitely a surrealness about the the purchase of a small Welsh football club by one incredibly well known Canadian film star, and one lesser but still substantially well known US TV star, I’ve never been a massive football fan, but when something like this happens, you can’t help but be intrigued
I think we also all love a good underdog story of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney purchasing Wrexham Football Club is a tale that has captured the hearts of sports fans around the world. For those who don’t know, Wrexham Football Club is a Welsh football team with over 140 years of history, has had its fair share of ups and downs but has always had a dedicated fanbase that loves and supports the club through thick and thin.
